Yes. 97% of the earth's
water contains salt. Since all aquatic biomes are somewhat
connected, with the exception of sessile pools and some ponds,
there is a small amount of salt in freshwater. In addition
to the melting icecaps of the polar regions, a lot of the saline
content in fresh water is carried through groundwater or runoff
from the surface. One problem we face is caused by our use
of salt to melt the ice on our roads during the winter; runoff
from the melted ice and snow finds its way into lakes, streams,
and ponds, and poses a serious threat to the plants and animals
therein.
